about

My name is Trista O’Connor and I’m a photographer who has been doing photography for over 15 years. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art Photography at Arcadia University. In terms on how I describe my work is simply an extension of my own mind and eyes into photographic material. When I’m taking photos of landscapes, people, or creating a scene. My intention on what I produce is always trying to aim what is going to resonate and provoke feeling within someone when they are looking at my work. The feelings that they could feel could be emptiness, nostalgia, confusion or even serenity. Photography is the way I speak without words each image holds value, each photo has a story that I capture.
I work with various photographic mediums such as digital, film and cyanotype photography. When I am working with digital it easy for me to explore different techniques by manipulating lighting by applying something to my lens or in film creating a very dark and gloomy aesthetic. I aim for different types of photography by using different mediums and playing with it this allows me to go past traditional boundaries of photography.  Each time I take photographs, the act itself brings me a sense of peace and comfort. My practice is both technical and emotional, I am very grounded in my craft however it is deeply tied to self-reflection. Through my work, I aim not only to preserve moments but to create images that invite the viewer to pause, reflect, and connect with the unseen stories within them.
